ACT FOUR
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL ROOM- AFTERNOON
Silas and Hester are dressed in elegant early twentieth
century attire. They race into the room, slamming the door
behind them.
TITLE OVER: NEW YORK - 1920
Silas frantically grabs a large armoire and shoves it in
front of the door. Hester is not far behind with a heavy
marble-topped table, effectively creating a barricade.
A barricade which is obviously needed if the large THUMP from
the other side is any indication. Another THUMP. The vamps
look around wildly.
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL - HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
Ten POLICEMEN are outside the door. One is RAMMING the door
with his shoulder, trying to break it down.
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL ROOM- CONTINUOUS
Silas runs to the window and looks out.
CUT TO:
EXT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL - CONTINUOUS
View looking down from the window. A large group of heavily
armed policemen run into the building.
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Silas and Hester continue to look frantic as Zach enters from
the bedroom. He is also dressed in elegant attire, but looks
a little disheveled as if he just tumbled out of bed.
ZACH
Oi! What's all the racket?
Silas shoots him the evil eye.
SILAS
I told you so! I warned you that
something like this was going to
happen, but you never listen!
ZACH
(to Hester)
What's got his knickers all in a
twist?
HESTER
They found that girl's body in the
cloakroom! You know, that little
tramp you picked in the restaurant
downstairs! In front of half the
hotel!
(beat)
And didn't even offer to share!
Another loud THUMP on the front door. The trio turn in the
direction of the sound.
SILAS
That sound you hear is the police!
Police with guns!
ZACH
Bring 'em on! Bullets can't kill
us!
SILAS
No! But they can hurt us!
HESTER
(indicating her dress)
And ruin designer originals!
SILAS
One shot and the rest will open
fire until we look like swiss
cheese. And then what do you think
they'll do with our supposedly dead
bodies? Leave us here on the floor
for the room service staff to clean
up?! No! They'll roll us outside
where we'll burst into flames!
Zach frowns, clearly not having considered this.
SILAS (CONT'D)
Right. You want to survive this,
you'll do as I say.
Zach nods meekly.
SILAS (CONT'D)
Hit me.
A curious look crosses Zach's face as we:
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL - HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER
The group of policemen manage to push the door open.
CUT TO:
IN. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL ROOM - CONTINUOUS
The police push the door open, pushing the wardrobe cabinet
away as they do, and rush into the room.
Lying on the floor face down are Hester and Silas. POLICEMAN
#1 bends down to Hester, rolling her over so that she is face
up. She is bruised and bloody. She blinks her eyes as if
regaining consciousness.
HESTER
(dramatically)
Oh, thank God, officer! He's gone
crazy! He attacked us and ran out
the window! Down the fire escape!
Policeman #1 stands as Silas, his face also bloody, sits up
slowly.
POLICEMAN #1
You heard the lady! After him boys!
The policemen begin to head for the window, but policeman #1
points to a young officer, OFFICER BRADY.
POLICEMAN #1 (CONT'D)
Brady. You stay here and get their
statements.
The young man nods. His senior officer moves to join the
other policemen as they all exit out the window.
Brady bends down to Hester with concern.
BRADY
Are you alright, Miss?
He helps Hester stand. Silas also picks himself off the
floor.
HESTER
Yes. Thank you, officer.
The young policeman helps her to the sofa where she sits.
Brady sits next to her as Silas moves to stand by the sofa.
HESTER (CONT'D)
I don't know what happened! He used
to be such a good man!
Hester begins to cry, clearly over-acting to everyone except
the young officer. He takes out a handkerchief and hands it
to her. She dabs her eyes.
BRADY
There, there, Miss. Everything is
going to be fine--
THUD. A small noise catches the officer's attention. He looks
toward the door. Hester and Silas exchange a glance.
Another THUD. Brady stands and motions for Hester and Silas
to be quiet. He draws his pistol.
Another THUD. Brady draws his gun and moves toward the
cabinet which was in front of the door.
He throws open the door and finds Zachariah hiding inside.
Brady cocks his gun, about to shoot. But before he can fire,
Silas is behind him. A twist and loud CRACK, and Brady falls
to the ground dead, his neck broken.
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL - ELEVATOR SHAFT - MOMENTS LATER
The doors are forced open from the hallway. The three
vampires, one by one, grab the cables and begin to climb
downward.
CUT TO:
INT. NEW YORK CITY HOTEL - BASEMENT - MOMENTS LATER
Silas, Hester, and Zach emerge from the elevator shaft into
the hotel's basement.
ZACH
(with a grin)
That was a close one! Eh, Si?
He crosses over to a trapdoor which appears to lead down into
the sewer system.
ZACH (CONT'D)
Still, best not press our luck.
Where shall we go now? I hear
Chicago's a fun town.
Silas shakes his head.
SILAS
No.
ZACH
(shrugging)
Alright. You choose then.
SILAS
No, Zach. I can't do this anymore.
I can't keep cleaning up your
messes.
Zach frowns.
ZACH
Si. Come on.
Silas simply turns his back to the other man. Zach looks to
Hester hopefully.
ZACH (CONT'D)
Guess that leaves just the two
of...
Hester turns her back also. Zach's face turns cold.
ZACH (CONT'D)
I only went and gave you eternal
life, didn't I! Ungrateful
bastards!
Zach begins to descend the ladder that leads down into the
sewers.
CU on Hester and Silas' hands as they join in support of one
another.
CUT TO:
EXT. HEAVEN'S GATE CEMETERY - NIGHT
Back in present day, the gang and Hester and Silas face Zach
who is encased in his PROTECTIVE ENERGY BUBBLE. He in return
ignores the team and sneers at the his former friends.
HESTER
Zachy? What about us?
ZACH
Sorry, babes. Takes three to
activate it...
(indicating the
Scourgelius Quarana)
...but one can absorb its power.
SILAS
I knew better than to trust you!
ZACH
Well, congrats on that, Si.
HESTER
What about what you said earlier?
What's the point in living forever
if you don't have your friends?
ZACH
Friends? You think you two are my
friends?! You left me!
(nodding to Silas)
Him I understand. But you! You were
mine and you betrayed me!
Hester takes Silas' hand.
HESTER
I was never yours, Zach.
Zack swallows hard, genuinely choked up.
Behind the vamps, the team waits impatiently.
BILLIE
Are we here to watch "Dr. Phil" or
to kick some vampire ass?!
Silas pulls Hester, leading her away.
SILAS
Let them deal with him.
The two run off toward the trees. As the depart, Hester
glances back at Zach sadly.
Billie pulls out a gun and fires in their direction.
She hits Hester in the shoulder, but an instant later, the
pair are gone.
Unseen by all, Billie reaches into her pocket and presses a
button on a small box.
A BLAST OF ENERGY hits Zach's magic force field and bounces
off. He turns back to the team. CU on his left hand as it
squeezes the Scourgelius Quarana tightly. His eyes narrow and
begin to GLOW with the same energy.
ZACH
You can't destroy me! Once I absorb
all its power, I'll be invincible!
He holds up his right hand. A BLAST OF LIGHTENING shoots out.
The team leap in different directions to avoid the blast.
Zach walks toward the team, still in his protective bubble.
Frank throws a PUNCH striking the glowing shield. He shakes
his hand in pain. Zach BACKHANDS the man, sending him FLYING
through the air and landing on the ground stunned.
Vi jumps at Zach with a small ax in her hand. Her blows
bounce of the bubble. Zach punches the young Slayer. She
drops her ax and lands on the ground near Frank.
Fletcher fires his pistol at the solitary vampire, but his
bullets ricochet off with causing even the slightest amount
of damage.
Zach smirks and points at Fletcher. A LIGHTENING BOLT shoots
out and hits the man, knocking him to the ground unconscious.
Tamsin rushes to his side.
Mike blast another ENERGY BLAST at Zach, but the energy
simply dissipates on contact.
CU on Zach's feet as he takes another step.
Corrine and Billie sneak up from the side, but Zach catches
sight of him out of the corner of his eye.
He points to one half of the SUV. With a flick of his wrist,
the broken vehicle FLIES of the ground and hurtles toward the
two women.
Seeing it coming, Corrine pushes Billie out of the way just
in time for the full force of the SUV to hit only her. She
crumple to the ground, the crumpled machinery landing on top
of her.
CU again on Zach's feet as he takes another step toward the
team. He steps on a small branch. It breaks under his weight.
Seeing this, Mike cocks his eyebrow. He looks to Vi's ax
which lays a foot in front of the advancing vampire. He
clearly has an idea.
Zach pauses, a gloating look in his face. He looks to Tamsin.
ZACH (CONT'D)
Hey, gorgeous. Looks like I got an
opening for a new dame.
He turns and takes a step toward her, away from the direction
Mike wants him to go.
ZACH (CONT'D)
What do you say?
TAMSIN
I'd rather die!
ZACH
(with a cool smile)
You will. Eventually.
He takes another step closer to her.
MIKE
(to Zach)
Leave her alone!
Zach turns to Mike and then back to Tamsin.
ZACH
Think about my offer while I kill
your friends.
He begins to walk toward Mike.
ZACH (CONT'D)
So you want to die first?
He begins to walk toward Mike again, pausing a foot behind
the ax laying on the ground. CU on his left hand still
gripping the Scourgelius Quarana tightly.
Zach shoots a BOLT OF LIGHTENING at Mike. Mike hold his hand
up and BLOCKS the bolt. Mike is clearly drained, but hanging
in there.
MIKE
That all you got?!
Zach takes another step closer. Another BOLT strikes Mike. He
again BLOCKS, but is definitely in pain.
MIKE (CONT'D)
Wuss!
Zach sneers and takes another step forward. CU on his feet.
The ax is only a few inches before him, now inside his
protective energy shield.
Zach launches another BOLT at Mike, hitting the young man.
His body racked with pain, Mike just manages to make a small
movement with his hand.
Vi sits up.
The ax at Zach's feet shifts. Mike grits his teeth as Zach's
assault continues. The ax shifts again.
Suddenly the ax FLIES off the ground and SLICES THROUGH
Zach's left arm, severing it at the elbow. The limb drops to
the ground still clutching the Scourgelius Quarana tightly.
The glowing orb attached goes dark.
Zach screams in pain and anger. His eyes return to normal as
the ENERGY SHIELD protecting him collapses.
The arm rolls away, down the slight incline, and into the
nearby brook where it begins to float away.
ZACH
No! No!
Zach looks around frantically and then gives a jerk. Stunned,
he looks down to see a stake jutting from his chest. He looks
up to see Vi smirking at him.
With that, Zach burst into ashes, disintegrating to the
ground.
Tamsin helps Fletcher stand as Vi races to Mike. She bends
down next to him and helps him stand.
Frank is also up now. He looks around, doing a head count.
FRANK
Where's Corrine?
The half of the SUV that Zach threw shifts and Corrine
emerges. Billie is there first. She takes the younger woman's
hand and helps her stand. Being too cool to say "thank you"
for pushing her out of the way earlier, Billie simply gives
Corrine a nod.
Vi helps steadies Mike whose clothes are smoking lightly as
the others draw closer.
MIKE
(slightly dazed)
I smell bacon.
TAMSIN
(smirking)
That's all you, darling.
Frank looks at his SUV.
FRANK
Good thing I've got full coverage.
FLETCHER
I take it we're walking home.
VI
(excitedly)
Ooh!
She pulls out her cell phone and hits a speed dial number.
VI (CONT'D)
(into phone)
Rick! Hey! Can I get you to do me a
huge favor?
Off her smiling face we:
CUT TO:
EXT. FRANK'S DINNER - LATER
A PICK-UP TRUCK pulls up to the curb. Frank, Billie, Mike,
Tamsin, and Fletcher tumble out of the back. Corrine and Vi
climb out of the cab through the passenger side. Driving is
RICK. Vi walks around to his side. He rolls his windows down.
VI
Thank's, honey!
RICK
Anytime, baby!
She leans in and kisses him through the window for several
beats.
VI
See you tomorrow.
The gang all wave to Rick as he begins to leave. Billie stops
him.
BILLIE
Give me a lift back to my hotel?
Rick nods neutrally.
RICK
Sure.
She moves to get in the cab, but Frank grabs her arm.
FRANK
Back there with the Avayta demons-
that was something. Thanks.
Billie smiles nervously.
BILLIE
Must have been the adrenalin.
He nods and gives her a friendly slap on the arm. Billie gets
in the truck cab and gives Frank a small wave. Rick pulls
away from the curb as we:
CUT TO:
INT. RICK'S TRUCK - MOMENTS LATER
Billie turns to Rick.
BILLIE
I planted the tracking tag. You got
'em?
RICK
Yes, ma'am.
He pulls out a small device that looks much like the tracker
units the team uses. He tosses it to Billie.
RICK (CONT'D)
Why do we need to capture a
vampire?
BILLIE
Didn't ask.
In the dim light, she pulls off her bandage. Her surgical
site is completely healed!
CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND CENTRAL - LATER
Mike is at the sphere still looking a bit out of sorts.
Fletcher, Frank, and Tamsin are at various computer terminals
while Vi stands there watching.
She glances at the clock. 8:45 PM. Vi frowns. Tamsin notices.
TAMSIN
What's wrong?
VI
(shaking her head)
Nothing. I'm just a terrible
friend.
Tamsin gives Vi a sympathetic look as Mike takes his hands
off the sphere.
MIKE
No sign of it.
He looks to Frank.
FRANK
How can it have just vanished?
FLETCHER
I've told you. We don't know much
about the Scourgelius Quarana.
TAMSIN
Anything, really.
FLETCHER
It was most likely destroyed when
Mike interrupted the power
exchange.
FRANK
Most likely?
FLETCHER
(nodding)
Most likely.
Frank frowns.
FRANK
Well, that's good enough for me.
Let's call it a night.
No sooner than the words are out of his mouth, Vi and Mike
are out the door.
Frank frowns at their abrupt departure.
FRANK (CONT'D)
(calling after Vi and
Mike)
Don't let me hold you up.
Fletcher and Tamsin exchange an amused look as we:
FADE TO:
EXT. WILCOX COLLEGE - SARAH'S DORM - SHORTLY LATER
Sarah stands outside in front of a large, dimly lit bulletin
board. She is clearly not happy. She glances at her watch.
SARAH
(to herself)
Damn you, Vi Clark!
She turns to go back inside and bumps into a STRANGER seen
only from OVER THE SHOULDER. No details can be made out other
than they are wearing dark clothing. She looks up to the
person's face.
SARAH (CONT'D)
Sorry. I...
A look of recognition crosses her face.
SARAH (CONT'D)
Oh, hey! Funny seeing you here
cause I--
Suddenly a hand claps over her mouth. She attempts to scream,
to get away, but her attacker is strong. The hand over her
mouth is also clutching a rag obviously dipped in chloroform.
After a small struggle, she goes limp.
She is dragged out of frame by the unknown person.
A few beats pass. All is quiet. Vi enters frame. She looks
around for her Sarah. After seeing no sign, she sighs sadly
and walk out of frame.
The camera HOLDS for a few more beats and then SLOW ZOOMS to
the bulletin board in the BG. It is filled with a series of
"missing" student posters.
